Crime Rate Statistics Along The Jubilee Tube Line In London

Traveling by tube comes like second nature to any Londoner. What most people have never paused to ask themselves is … Just how safe are you when using the tube?

The Jubilee Tube Line is one of the newest and most popular in London with statistics showing that it is used to complete around 300 million journeys annually.

Despite the decline of the use of the tube by over 90% between late March and the month of April when Corona Virus lockdowns were in effect, a total of 504 crimes were reported along the Jubilee Tube Line in the first half of the year alone.

Using data garnered from the British Transport Police (BTP) who are in charge of policing the Jubilee Line, the National Rail Service, Line Stations, DLR, and the Overground Network, MyLondon has analyzed and compiled this article showing which Jubilee Tube Line stations have the highest levels of crime.

Unsurprisingly, some of the busiest stations along the line have the highest reported crime rates. However, an in-depth analysis of the crimes at each station along the line for the first half of the year as released by the BTP provides a deeper understanding of how the crime rates vary per each station.

The Waterloo Station is the busiest along the Jubilee Tube Line accounting for over 50 million journeys annually. In this station, a total of 34 crimes were reported between the months of January and June translating to a rate of 1.34 crimes for every million journeys made. Based on this data, the Waterloo Station ranks as number 24 out of the 27 the Jubilee Tube Line.

Canons Park Station is the least used station along the Jubilee Tube Line but it is still fairly busy accounting for over 1.5 million journeys. In the first half the year, only 3 crimes were reported in the station translating to about 4.1 crimes for every million journeys. This makes is Canon Park Station the 10th most dangerous station in the Jubilee Tube Line.

Most of the crimes along the Jubilee Tube Line were reported at Stratford Station which accounts for over 33.5 million journeys annually. The data provided by the BTP clearly distinguishes the crimes reported in the Underground areas and the above-ground areas monitored by the National Rail Services. This means that the crime figures of 73 only cover the tube and do not include the crimes reported on the Overground, platforms, and TfL. Overall data shows that 4.36 crimes are reported in the station for every million journeys. This means that the Stratford Station is ranked as the 6th most dangerous station along the Jubilee Tube Line.

Data shows that the West Hampstead Station is the safest along the Jubilee Tube Line. In the first half of the year, there was only one crime reported in month of May. This translates to the rate of 0.36 crimes per every million journeys. If you are looking to move to a safer neighbourhood visit these online estate agents.

Data also shows that the West Ham Station is the most dangerous along the Jubilee Tube Line with 31 crimes being reported in the underground sections of the station alone. Since the station handles a relatively lower number of journeys, it translated to a significantly higher crime rate of 35.84 crimes per every million journeys. This essentially means that the West Ham Station is around 100 times more dangerous that the West Hampstead Station.

Most crimes along the Jubilee Tube Line were reported in the month of January (147 crimes). Although the commencement of the lockdown led to a decline in the crime rates along the line, it did not reflect the drastic decrease in the number of passengers who used the tube in the same period. For example, in the month of April, the number of passengers using the tube reduced by 95% but the crime rate fell by less than 80% which is the decrease announced in January.
