7 Ways to Freshen Up Your Garden Deck

Ah, the garden deck. A place for sun-soaked lounging, afternoon barbecues, and evening relaxation. But let’s face it, the British weather can give our beloved decks a bit of a drubbing, can’t it? If your deck is looking a bit worse for wear, there is no need to worry, though, because there are lots of fairly simple things you can do to freshen it up and make it feel like it’s been freshly laid once again.

1. Pressure Washing: The Ultimate Deck Reviver

If your deck is covered in moss, mould and dirt, and you want to get it looking new again with as little effort as possible, then pressure washing is undoubtedly your best friend. IOt’s basically like a day at the spa for your deck, which will come out looking rejuvenated after spending some quality time under those high pressure jets, and if you don’t have a pressure washer, don’t worry because you can always rent one for a reasonable rate!

2. A Splash of Colour

If your deck does not look as good as it once did and you feel like it is dragging the atmosphere of your garden down, then one simple thing you can do to revive it once more is to simply give it a fresh lick of paint.

Most people simply stain the natural wood of their decks to enhance it, but choosing a different colour, whether it be a neutral grey, a pretty lavender pastel or even a bright green, can make your deck more unique and help you to fall in love with it all over again. Just ensure that you choose paint that is suitable for wood and ideal for outdoor use or you will be out there repainting it way more often than you should, or would want to.

3. Deck Decor That Dazzles

Why not spruce things up with some lovely outdoor furniture or decorative pieces? A new table and chair set, some solar-powered lanterns, or even a stylish outdoor rug can give your deck an instant facelift, and make it feel a lot more like an extra room in your home rather than a simple deck. If you place an awning above it, you will even be able to use it in all weathers, which will transform your enjoyment of the garden in a not insignificant way.

4. Get Planting

You might think that the deck is a place for decking and the lawn is a place for plants, but there is absolutely no reason why you cannot put a few planters on your deck and start growing some pretty plants and flowers there because, after all, nothing says ‘fresh’ like plants. Planters, hanging baskets, and container gardens can turn your deck into a blooming paradise that you will pretty much want to spend all of your time sitting on. Just make sure you choose plants that will thrive easily in your area, if you are not exactly the green-fingered type!

5. Add a Pergola or Shade Sail

Want to make a real statement? Consider adding a pergola or shade sail. These not only provide a bit of shade for those scorching summer days but can add an architectural flair to your outdoor space. Just make sure that you take the time to dress them up a bit with things like climbing plants and flower baskets which will make them look all the more attractive and unique.

6. Light It Up

Outdoor lighting is so much more important for the style of the garden than many people think. It adds a certain atmosphere to the garden in the evenings that it would be difficult to replicate without lighting, and of course, it also makes it easier for you to enjoy your deck at a later time of day. So, whether you hang string lights, solar-powered garden lamps, or even a chic outdoor chandelier, you can create a warm and welcoming deck experience.

7. Build a Deck Bar

If you fancy yourself a bit of an entertainer, why not add a deck bar? Whether it’s a permanent fixture or a portable trolley, a well-stocked bar can turn your deck into party central. Add some tropical touches, and every day can be a holiday on your deck.

Your deck, as you can see, really does not have to be a dull, dirty, and uninspiring part of your garden – it can be the main feature! So why not try out some of the deck-refreshing ideas above right now?
