Visit an open-air lido
With summer 2023 forecasted to be hotter than 2022, if you find yourself in London and can’t take the heat then why not head to an open-air Lido? For kids, one of the best outdoor swimming options is Hillingdon Lido. Formerly known as Uxbridge Lido, this 50-metre open-air swimming pool has a heated shallow splash pool for children as well as some gorgeous fountains and a new leisure centre on-site which also includes an indoor pool. Another great option is the Finchley Lido Leisure Centre which has an indoor pool, bowling alley, restaurants and a cinema – brilliant if you are planning to spend the whole day there! Parents can relax on the grassy terrace while kids play in the small outdoor lido or head indoors for some more activities like the leisure pool’s wave machine.
Watch a West End Show
There are plenty of family-friendly shows performed on the West End all year round. Some of the top family favourites are The Lion King, Wicked, Frozen and Matilda The Musical. If you are planning a visit with kids be sure to check the age restrictions of the show as some theatres will not allow children under three to watch it. The Lyceum and Apollo Victoria are some of the most child-friendly theatres showing suitable performances and you may even be able to find family-friendly matinees!
Head to a museum
Many London museums are free to everyone which can help to keep the costs down if you are travelling as a family. With almost 150 museums in the capital city, you are sure to find one that the kids will enjoy! If your trip is over the weekend, The National Gallery holds kids’ studio and drawing workshops on Sundays which is great for keeping them entertained. The Science Museum is also great for little ones due to the many hands-on exhibits. Being [MS1] the most visited science and technology museum in Europe, it comes with a host of positive recommendations!
Take a day trip
If you are spending a few days in London then you may want to consider heading out on a day trip. The Warner Bros. Harry Potter Tour is a perfect place for this, especially if your kids are fans of the franchise! Easily accessible from London by train, shuttle bus or road, the tour displays sets, objects and costumes used in the films and you can immerse yourself in the magical world of Harry Potter. Another brilliant day trip for kids is Shrek’s Adventure where you can ride a 4D magical flying bus and enjoy 10 fairy-tale-themed shows.
