British Motor Museum: A Must-Visit Place With Your Family

Introduction

The British Motor Museum exhibits the biggest collection of classic British cars in the world. This museum has a collection of almost 400 cars from the classic, vintage, and veteran periods. This museum is located in the little community of Gaydon, Warwickshire, right off M40 Junction 12 in London. The Museum building is a brilliant example of art deco architecture, while the Collections Centre building provides a contemporary counterpoint. It was created in the 1970s when the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) established a new division to conserve and manage the company’s vintage vehicle collection. In 1979 the company changed its name to BL Heritage Limited and relocated to Studley, Warwickshire. In 1981 a museum was built at Syon Park, west of London, in the old site of the London Transport Museum, with over 100 cars from the collection on exhibit.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust and the Jaguar Heritage Trust currently look after the museum. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust’s preserved car collection was incorporated into the Museum in 1993.
